part 1
One of the greatest problems the church faces today is the fact that we do
not study the Bible for ourselves.
In fact, it was after I finished my Masters Degree that I finally saw a school
that offered a course on How To Study The Bible.
Very few books are printed on the subject. The ones that are with a given
exception are all put together with teaching the student of the Word of God to
correct the Bible instead of how to study.
With that being said here is part one of How to study the King James Bible for
Yourself.
How To Study The King James Bible part 1
by Greg Little
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
In order to study the Bible we must meet God’s requirements.
1. We Must Have The Right Tuition
John 3:3
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man
be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
2. We Must Have The Right Text
2 Timothy 3:15-16
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to
make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
God’s Inspired Preserved Words
2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
“inspiration” means God breathed
Genesis 2:7
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his
nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Psalm 12:6-7
6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth,
purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation
for ever.
God’s Inspired Preserved Words
1 Peter 1:23
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of
God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
3. We Must Have The Right Teacher
John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:
for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he
speak: and he will shew you things to come.
4. We Must Have The Right Teaching
John 7:17
If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of
God, or whether I speak of myself.
5. We Must Have The Right Tools
2 Timothy 4:13
The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee,
and the books, but especially the parchments.

Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance
Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
6. We Must Have The Right Technique
Isaiah 28:9-10
9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine?
them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line
upon line; here a little, and there a little:
(1) Comprehensive Reading
Read the Bible until the Bible reads you.
A good guideline is to read a passage you are studying at least ten times at one
setting.
Mark down key thoughts, words, or phrases as you go, but keep reading.
(2) Complete Word Study
Look up key words in the dictionary.
The best dictionary to use is a Webster’s 1828 Dictionary of the English
Language.
There are good Webster’s Collegiate Dictionaries as well a some of the
paperbacks that are inexpensive.
(3) Cross Reference Study
Look up references in your concordance.
The best concordance is the Strong’s Expanded Exhaustive Concordance – Red
Letter Edition.
Also there is a great book of references called The Treasury of Scripture
Knowledge.
(4) Compile Information
Outline, personal illustrations, thoughts, poems, studies, and quotes.
Get things down on paper or you will forget them
I use a 5” by 7” un-ruled pad, but there are plenty variations on these at the
drug store.
(5) Confirm Through Prayer
Make sure you are on the right path.
Always pray over what you are studying as to not be led into any doctrinal
error.
7. We Must Have The Right Time
Psalms 5:3
My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my
prayer unto thee, and will look up.
8. We Must Have The Right Thirst
Psalms 42:2
My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear
before God?
